I planted this box, my first ever, on a recent business trip to Lisbon, Portugal. I stayed at the Marriott hotel on Avenida dos Combatentes and the box is located near the hotel.
Face the front of the hotel standing on the sidewalk next to Avenida dos Combatentes. Turn to your left and begin walking down the sidewalk (you will be heading ~ southeast). Cross over the hotel driveway and continue following the sidewalk. Up ahead, you should see a large palm tree in the middle of the sidewalk. You should also be able to see a Cemusa advertising kiosk on the left side of the sidewalk near the street. Directly across the sidewalk from this kiosk is a set of ~5 steps going up. Follow these steps up. You will immediately see some steps going up on your right but continue straight. Next you will go down a set of ~5 steps and a little farther ahead, you should see a stairway that goes down to your right. Take this stairway.
Follow this stairway until you exit toward your left and into a parking lot...watch for cars coming up the street to enter the parking garage on your right. Across the parking lot and street is a narrow sidewalk against a wall. Follow this sidewalk all the way down to the end of the street. As you walk down the sidewalk, you should be seeing lamp posts and small red posts in the sidewalk. You should also see a highway up ahead of you and a small street at the end of the sidewalk. Just before the sidewalk curves to the right, you should see a sign on your right that says, "Rua Dr. Bastos Goncalves".
Follow the sidewalk around to the right and continue walking (you are now on Rau General Fimino Miguel). Shortly, you should come to a small, chained-off driveway with a sign in the middle that says, "Entrada e Saida de Viaturas Nao Estacionar Sujeto a Reboque". Cross this driveway and continue down the sidewalk and you should see a very strange tree that has bent over, grown horizontally, and then returned to vertical. It is almost blocking the sidewalk. At the base of this tree, on the side farthest from the sidewalk is where you'll find the Grinch buried under some pieces of rock and concrete.
I hope you enjoyed this little walk. I really don't know too much about the area so be careful if you go at night. Please rehide well and be discrete as there can be some traffic on this road. Since I live in the USA, I will not be able to maintain this box but I would appreciate hearing about it, so please email me and let me know. Thanks!
Letterbox Hybrid
Letterboxing is another form of treasure hunting using clues instead of coordinates. In some cases, the letterbox owner has made their container both a letterbox and a geocache and posted its coordinates on Geocaching.com. If there is a stamp inside a Letterbox Hybrid, it is not an item intended for trade; the stamp is meant to remain in the box so that visitors can use it to record their visit. To read more about letterboxing, visit the Letterboxing North America web site.
