Geocaching Challenges

For this release we have tightened up the Challenges functionality and addressed a number of bugs from the last release. Please see the changes below:

• Added ability to remove a Challenge (leave or un-complete) from the private profile list of Challenges
• Added an explanation of Challenges and a link back to Challenges home in private profile
• Thumbnail maps on Challenge details pages are now clickable to open a larger Google map
• Added explanatory text to Worldwide Challenges to reduce confusion
• Added readable URLs for Challenges, e.g. geocaching.com/challenge/CX1_Snoqualmie_Tunnel_Of_Light
• Reply fields on Challenge details are now hidden until clicking "reply" to reduce scrolling
• Fixed bug preventing a user from accepting a Challenge when visited by searching the exact CX code
• Fixed bug preventing Challenges photo upload if the file extension contains uppercase JPG
• Added a spinner and gallery loading message while the Challenges photo gallery is first loading
• Challenges gallery no longer waits for all images to load before displaying
• Fixed exception error when attempting to submit a Challenge description with 2000 characters
• Fixed bug in IE8 which caused the Challenges flagging link to disappear after flagging
• Updated thumbnail map on Challenges details to use a Challenges icon rather than the Google red pin
• Added check to prevent accepting or completing of unpublished Challenges
• Added a spinner to Challenges photo upload and disabled comment box to indicate the upload is still being processed
• Fixed display error in Safari when viewing Challenge comments
• Fixed bug preventing Challenges radius search using a WM code
• Added text for supported image type uploads on Challenges comments
• Fixed bug which stripped line breaks from Challenges comments
• Fixed alignment of Challenges coordinates on details page when no address is associated with the location
• Fixed styling issue on "choose location" section of Challenges creation which caused the returned locations to expand beyond the fancybox popup
• When hovering over Challenge stats on the private profile page the stats now correctly take into account archived Challenges
• A search made without entering a location/GC/WM/CX code will now properly return nearby results based on IP location
• Added a red strikethrough for archived Challenges when viewing private profile list
• Fixed Challenges search results distance display in KM to round to the nearest 1/10th kilometer
• Fixed issue where excessively wide "landscape" images would dominate the Challenges gallery. Images are now constrained by width and height
• Fixed issue causing low resolution monitors to prevent Challenge completion after upload because the "submit" button disappeared
• Now sorting Worldwide Challenges by newest by default
• Removed the ability to delete a Challenge creation log
• Fixed bug in IE9 compatibility mode which prevented accessing the browser location when searching for Challenges


Geocaching

• GC: Now updating session when user changes distance units preference so the change is effected immediately
• GC: Avatars in geocache logs are now clickable to view the user's profile
• GC: Fixed bad URL on Int'l Geocaching Day souvenir detail page
• GC: Logging in via OAuth (through Live-enabled applications) no longer invalidates your cookie on the website
• GC: Fixed coord.info URL in Trackable notifications

Howdy all - the release today will include some new functionality but mainly bugs fixes for both Geocaching.com and Challenges. The team has been hard at work and, as always, we appreciate all the feedback and input you have provided. Thank you everyone for their efforts!


New– Geocaching.com
Add Paging to logs on Geocache Listings - Revamped the way logs are displayed on the Cache page. Added Tabs for viewing your logs; your friend’s logs or just all logs.
Created a step-by-step video highlighting the Caches Along a Route feature
Created DiveCaching page with information and links
Souvenir- MEGA Finland 2011: Retroactively awarded MEGA Finland souvenir
Updated find count on login widget to update quicker and more efficiently

New- Challenges
Added the user name of the original poster when replying to a comment in Challenges
Removed reply/flag options except on user mouse over
Updated public profile tab so that total finds does not include completed challenges
Changed the display of Challenges you have published to include archived Challenges
Updated the comments of a Challenge to exclude “Accepted It” entries
Added educational text about what makes a good Challenge to details page
Updated personal list of challenges to include and display archived Challenges
Added link to Feedback site from Challenges creation page

Bug Fixes – Geocaching.com
Cleaned up the avatar image sizing so it’s more consistent and efficient
Fixed a bug with some translations on the trackable details page.
Corrected a bug that prevented users from logging into Geocaching.com on latest version of Safari
Fixed bug to decrypt Cache details hint
Removed one confirmation (of two) when deleting a completion comment
Fixed display issue on cache details page without any images
Corrected format of entry date on cache submission form
Fixed bug that was improperly showing imperial/metric units in account settings
Corrected option on membership screen for Premium Members
Fixed display issues for Challenges on Internet Explorer
Removed extraneous text in LOC files delivered via PQ
Corrected bug in display of My Friends
Updated Czech state name

As descrições nas fotos presentes nos logs já eram !!!

Detesto o "automatismo" de ver os restantes registos à medida que se "puxa" a página. É uma modernice que está muito na moda, mas para os meus gostos é irritante que se farta. Preferia como estava ...

Gosto da funcionalidade "Ver Logbook" ... mas também vivia bem sem ela ...

Posso até ser conservador, mas cada vez me convenço mais que mais valia estarem quietos e tratarem apenas do que realmente conta em vez de constantemente estarem a adicionar novas mariquices e de cada vez sempre a estragar aquilo que já está bem ...

Eu gosto de os logs irem aparecendo à medida que vamos descendo a listing. Eu tinha um userscript que obrigava a carregar os logs todos, agora já não preciso!

Finalmente alguma funcionalidade para os Friends. Agora já podemos ver os logs dos nossos "amigos" separados do resto.

Depois desta actualização deixei de conseguir ver os logs no meu not-so-smart-phone. Antes já não conseguia usar o decrypt mas não me preocupava muito com isso mas não ter logs... Não dá. Acedendo ao logbook também não consigo ter nenhum registo...

Update Mystery and Multi-cache Coordinates

In this release we make it possible for Basic and Premium Members to add "corrected" coordinates to Mystery and Multi-caches. Visit the cache page and click the pencil icon next to coordinates, paste your new coordinates in the field and submit. That's it! The new coordinates will be hidden from others so there is no reason to fear spoiling the final location. When you download the GPX from the cache your new coordinates are included. (Please note: Pocket Queries will include only the original cache coordinates for now, however that functionality will be added in a followup release).





Release Notes

• Added a feature to correct Multi and Mystery cache coordinates for personal use (note: Coordinates are fixed in individual GPX downloads however Pocket Query functionality will follow in another release)
• Added the ability for cache owners to delete spoiler log images without also deleting the log text
• Added GSAK, Sachsencacher.de, GeoGet and Cachebox to list of partner applications on geocaching.com/live
• When a geocache is created or edited we now associate (behind the scenes) a Yahoo GeoPlanet WOEID to the cache allowing us to tap into 6 million named places globally. This provides opportunities to expose the data in creative and helpful ways
• Separated out Challenge stats to a new profile tab and added the ability to view a user's Challenges completed and created, as well as your own accepted
• Avatars are now resized to 48 x 48, down from 75 x 75
• Added Romanian to the list of Geocaching.com supported languages
• Added new French translation of the Intro to Geocaching presentation at geocaching.com/tools/intro.aspx
• Updated site-down notice with Facebook link and “hamster” video
• When viewing a bookmark list you own it is now possible to see which caches in the list you have already found
• Transitioning away from User Voice and back to IPB forums for support inquiries and feedback
• Fixed map bug which caused the map not to update a Pocket Query properly when making changes to the PQ
• Fixed map bug which caused the mouse pointer to identify filtered caches by name even when the icon is hidden
• Fixed display of updated coordinates log in print-friendly version of cache pages to actually include the new coordinates
• Updated text for Discovering a trackable on the Travel Bug tutorial page
• Added clarification to Terms of Use, Section 3 (language now allows for under-18 usage of the website with parent or guardian supervision)
• Fixed the CITO gallery to include a log link when viewing an image
• Fixed link on /about/history.aspx page to updated noaa.gov description of Selective Availability
• Added new teaser video for "Discover" challenge type on types page
• Fixed display issue on Trackables pages when the title is especially long

Geocaching Live API Beta

The beta launch of the Geocaching Live API continues! This time we're pleased to announce four new partners:


Geocaching Swiss Army Knife (Coming Soon)

This application will scheduled to launch with Live support tomorrow. GSAK is the all-in-one Geocaching and waypoint management tool. Features include: Groundspeak API support, multiple databases, sending/receiving waypoints to GPSr, Google maps, conversion to many mapping formats, PDA output (including CacheMate support), HTML output, extensive searching, macro support, and much more. GSAK runs on Windows operating systems (2000, XP, Vista, Windows 7).


GeoGet

A complete geocaching solution for Windows. Import Pocket Queries, solve mystery caches, add notes, plan trips, and export information to the GPS or browse your database in your PDA.


CacheBox

Cachebox is a paperless mobile geocaching software for Android with offline database support and Geocaching.com Live API capability. Manage and find mystery caches with intelligent handling of Final Waypoints and the Mystery-Solver module. Features include multi-database support, image and spoiler view, Field Notes upload, track recording and viewing. Cachebox is a free open-source application.


Sachsencacher.de

Sachsencacher.de is a website providing statistical evaluation of geocache quality in Saxony (Germany) by examining log content.

Gostei das novidades;

"Added the ability for cache owners to delete spoiler log images without also deleting the log text". Muitas vezes um visitante descuida-se e publica uma foto que não devia. O owner só tinha à diposição a "bomba atómica", que dava chatices com a GS ou o encolher dos ombros e ver o seu esforço de criar uma cache desafiante deitado por água abaixo. Agora pode actuar na exacta medida que a situação requer. Boa iniciativa da GS.

Confirma-se que a área de Feedback vai terminar... é pena. A força do voto vai deixar de se fazer sentir, uma vez que as polls estão desactivadas desde hà muito nos foruns da GS. Má iniciativa da GS.

Antes de mais, e como o Manuel diz, acho que há óptimas iniciativas nestas últimas novidades.

Quanto ao site de feedback, acho que o racional da Groundspeak para o transferir de novo aos fóruns é porque muitas das questões mais prementes já terão sido discutidas e, por isso, já não fará sentido manter uma ferramenta de feedback tão complexa. E, realmente, penso que o site de feedback deu um contributo muito importante, mas, neste momento, mantê-lo traria um proveito cada vez mais marginal. Talvez tenham que o voltar a abrir daqui a uns tempos, mas, por agora, percebo o porquê da decisão (apesar de estarem a tirar voz ao consumidor).

Nos últimos tempos o site do feedback começava a ter muitas propostas estranhas. Tinha alguns votos disponíveis e andei a ver as novidades e poucas se aproveitavam...
Aquilo chega a um ponto em que tem que se fazer uma limpeza e recomeçar de novo.
Assim agora durante uns tempos o pessoal vai explorar o site e pensar em coisas novas para propor e que valham a pena, em vez de criar uma nova proposta por tudo e mais alguma coisa...

Geocaching Live API Beta

The beta launch of the Geocaching Live API continues! This time we're pleased to announce four new partners:


PocketDrake

PocketDrake is a freeware application for devices running Windows Mobile designed for paperless geocaching. The aim of the program is to provide in one place everything needed for geocaching as well as to allow simple data management through programs on the PC. It is recommended to use PocketDrake in cooperation with GeoGet, because both applications share the same database.


GeoStats Premium

Premium maps and downloads for Portugal provided by Geocaching@PT. View all caches online and apply filters to find only the caches you want. Downloads are available in a variety of file formats to view on your device.

CacheBox for Android

CacheBox is a paperless mobile geocaching software for Android with online and offline maps support and Geocaching.com Live API capability. Manage and find mystery caches with intelligent handling of Final Waypoints and the Mystery-Solver module. Features include multi-database support, image and spoiler view, Field Notes upload, track recording and viewing. Cachebox is a free open-source application.


WinCachebox

WinCachebox is a paperless geocaching database management software for Windows PC with online and offline maps support and Geocaching.com Live API capability. Manage waypoints and mystery caches with intelligent handling of Final Waypoints and the Mystery-Solver module. Features include image and spoiler view. WinCachebox is designed to export geocache databases to mobile CacheBox Apps (for Android and Windows Mobile) and to reimport changes back to the WinCachebox database. WinCachebox is a free open-source application.
