Hello all,

Please excuse my Portuguese as I have used G00gle translate and I am not sure how good it is.

I am visiting Portugal at the end of this month and I was hoping that you could recommend some "must do" caches for me?

We will be arriving into Lisbon and spending a couple of days before driving to Alvor via Evora, Baja & Faro. I need 2 D/T combinations to complete my grid (5/4 & 2.5/5) so ideally I would be aiming to get these done although I am not sure if I will have enough time.

I will also be hoping to pick up my 900th cache in Portugal so again any suggestions for an appropriate cache would be cool.

Any recommendations would be really appreciated :-P

Hi!

How long are you staying in each of the cities you mentioned?
For a cache Terrain 5, probably you will need some special equipment... like ropes or a boat. What is your experience in those type of caches?

Hi Rifkinda,

Thanks for your reply. We are staying in...

Lisbon for 2 nights.
Evora for 1 night.
Beja for 1 night
Faro for 2 nights
Alvor for 5 nights

For the 2.5/5 I was planning on doing this:http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=06583cdc-114b-4306-9d23-119995c1de69

The only 5/4 caches that I can see appear to be further North excepts for the GPN Letterbox cache which looks great but I don't know if I will have enough time to do it all.

Hi, Welcome!

If you decide to do this 5/4 - http://coord.info/GC3PBA2 - the bonus cache of a power trail near Lisbon i can give you some help.
You can do the entire PT in a couple of hours n I can provide you with a wikiloc track to help with that.
There´s no need for special eqt but you will have to wet your feet (your knees to, probably) in this cache.
I´m not a fan of PT´s but this one it´s kind of ok, around a very cool place.

The GPN Letterbox is a night cache and although i didn't have a found in it, I´ve heard that it´s a awesome cache! :-D

Why don´t you take a look at the caches with more favourite votes?
You can see them here, and choose the district (Lisboa, Évora, Beja and Faro), and see which caches are the most favourited ones in that area.

It's a great option, you won't regret it.

After Alvor do you return to Lisbon? If so, i would recommend that you choose the road near the west coast (instead of using the highway); the landscape is amazing and there are great caches on the way.

Thanks so much for your replies.

Tmob, Congratulations on the #7000 :-D sadly we fly out of Faro so won't have a chance to travel back via the West Coast.

RuiJSDuarte, I am not a fan of PT's either but if it means I can grab a 5/4 at the end of it, I am certainly willing to give it a try ;)) So if you could help with the track I would be very grateful.

Rifkinda, That link is really cool. Exactly what I was looking for in terms of finding the hidden gems!

Well, that means you will have to return! [:D]

Near the GC1F66R, there many great caches, that you can find while you enjoy a nice day in the beach.
For example:
http://coord.info/GC1EFM0 and http://coord.info/GC1FNZ6 (near Benagil beach)
or the ones in Caneiros beach: near this one http://coord.info/GC1VYMT

I´ve just realize that the track is available in the listings - http://coord.info/GC3N4YQ :-D
Sadly they are only in Portuguese so if you have any trouble with the google translator, just tell here and any of us (certainly) will help with that and with the clues.

If you make a PQ of Portugal with caches 5/4 you will see that there are only 11 with this combination.

All up from the north of Lisbon and one at the island of Terceira, Azores.

The nearest caches from Lisbon are:

This cache requires you to be able to read Portuguese, unless an English version had been recently included, if you choose this one check the language issue with the owner.
